As high school students, there is so much we can learn from seniors. From life lessons, to advice on how to prioritize what is important in life– these are all things that the high schoolers can gain. Lessons like "not to sweat the small stuff" and how to look at the glass half full and not half empty come to mind.
I have loved hearing how much some of the residents have done in their lives from scuba diving to concerts and trips all over the world. Many have had interesting jobs and so many life experiences. I hope when I am a senior, I have all these wonderful stories to tell and have so many fun memories that I have made. These seniors still have more memories to make and we hope that some include our fun sessions with them.
Life can be difficult for some seniors and it is often lonely and isolating. Programs that pair seniors and students can help the emotional well being of both groups. It is fun and brings joy to everyone-volunteer and resident alike!
